ایک بادشاہ خود تو رحم دل اور نیک مزاج تھا مگر اس کا بیٹا اتنا بے رحم اور تلخ تھا کہ جب دیکھو غصے میں تیوری چڑھائے ہوئے نوکروں کو ڈانتا اور پیٹتا ہی نظر آتا تھا بادشاہ کو یہ خبریں پہنچیں تو بہت رنج ہو بیشتر اشاروں میں سمجھاتا مگر بیٹے پر ذرا بھی اثر نہ پڑتا۔

تھڑے عرصے بعد شہزادے کے ہاں بیٹا پیدا ہوا۔ اتفاق دیکھئے کہ اس خدمت گار کے گھر بھی عین اسی وقت لڑکا پیدا ہوا۔ بادشاہ نے محل میں جا کر دونوں لڑکوں کو ایک پلنگ پر لیٹا دیا اور شہزادے سے کہا کہ تم ان میں سے آپنا لڑکا پہچانو۔

شہزادے نے دونوں لڑکوں کو ایک سا دیکھ کر جواب دیا کہ میں تو نہیں پہچان سکتا 

باپ نے کہا! کیا غریب اور بادشاہ میں فرق نہیں

شہزادے نے کہا مجھے تو کوئی فرق نظر نہیں آتا۔

اور باپ نے کہا بے شک کوئی فرق نہیں اور جب اللہ تعالٰی نے کوئی فرق نہیں رکھا تو تم کیوں فرق رکھتے ہو۔

شہزادہ شرمندہ ہو گیا اور اس کے بعد نوکروں پر کبھی بھی سختی نہیں کی۔
